Rabi Lamichhane returns home again amid security risk at Nakkhu Jail

KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, who had announced he would return to Nakkhu Jail, has instead returned home. Lamichhane cited security concerns as the reason for not staying at the prison.

According to RSP leader Ganesh Parajuli, Nakkhu Jail officials did not allow Lamichhane to stay due to insufficient security arrangements.

“Currently, proper security cannot be provided. He will be asked to report whenever necessary. For now, he is safer at home,” Parajuli told Khabarhab. “When security can be ensured, he will be called, but for now he remains at home for safety. That’s why he left in the same manner he came.”

Earlier, Lamichhane had escaped from Nakkhu Jail during the Gen-Z protests. In the meantime, a letter from the jail administration reportedly requesting his release was also made public. However, the administration has summoned him and other inmates who had fled during the protests.
