KATHMANDU: Chandra Prasad Dhakal, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), has expressed deep grief over the destruction of private businesses during the recent unrest, writing that he feels like breaking down in tears but cannot afford to do so.
During Tuesday’s escalation of the Gen-Z protests, following what demonstrators described as brutal government suppression a day earlier, several private industries and business infrastructures were set on fire. Among them were Chandragiri Cable Car and Maulakalika Cable Car in Gaindakot, both of which are part of Dhakal’s investments.
Posting a Facebook status on Saturday, four days after the incidents, Dhakal said he started his entrepreneurial journey with small investments, not large capital. He added that he now stands at one of the most challenging points of responsibility in his career.
“With billions invested in my own projects suffering unexpected damage, I feel like sitting silently with tears in my eyes. Yet, I do not have that liberty,” Dhakal wrote.
