KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has formally opposed the recent dissolution of Parliament.
In a virtual meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee held Friday night, leaders decided to take a firm stand against the move.
In a statement issued by the party’s Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel, the Nepali Congress said the dissolution is contrary to the vision of Nepal’s Constitution and the interpretation of the Supreme Court.
“This step of dissolving Parliament goes against the framework of our Constitution and the guidance of the respected Supreme Court. It is not in line with constitutional provisions,” the statement read.
The party also expressed concern that the decision could undermine democratic achievements and risk nullifying the spirit and gains of the Gen-Z movement.
