Energy Minister denies load-shedding claims, says power supply improving



KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has dismissed recent rumours of nationwide load-shedding, calling them baseless. Speaking at the House of Representatives on Wednesday, he said the government’s efforts to improve electricity supply are progressing rapidly.

Responding to lawmakers’ questions, Minister Khadka stated that except for a few areas, most parts of the country are receiving electricity without disruptions.

“We have been moving ahead with reforms at full speed and continuing electricity production. Therefore, the talk of load-shedding is meaningless,” he said.

The minister informed the House that Nepal currently exports electricity worth Rs 17.72 billion and imports hydropower worth Rs 12.92 billion, resulting in a profit of NPR 5 billion. While some regions still lack full coverage, he assured that supply is being gradually extended to those areas as well.

Khadka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining improvements in the energy sector and ensuring reliable electricity for all citizens.
