KATHMANDU: Actress and central committee member of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rekha Thapa, has called for a special general convention to resolve the escalating internal disputes within the party.
Her remarks came on Wednesday after clashes broke out between supporters of party chair Rajendra Lingden and general secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana during the Kathmandu district convention of the RPP-affiliated youth wing.
Thapa, a longstanding critic of Lingden’s leadership, said the party’s leadership should now be chosen through a special convention. “Hasn’t the infighting within RPP now necessitated a special general convention?” she asked, commenting immediately after the scuffle.
The incident occurred at a party palace in Chabahil, where pro-establishment youth members and those aligned with Rana exchanged blows after Lingden arrived at the venue. Following the clash, Lingden announced the suspension of the convention.
In recent weeks, Rana has intensified his opposition to Lingden, deepening fears that the RPP may be heading toward a split.
