KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has lashed out at supporters of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), describing them as not only peculiar but pitiful for backing what he said were attempts to undermine justice.
Addressing Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Oli criticised those rallying behind RSP in connection with cooperative fraud allegations, warning that “time will always demand answers from those who try to escape charges by murdering justice through mob pressure.”
Oli noted that hundreds of people, including former ministers, ex-lawmakers, sitting mayors, and other officials, are facing court trials for embezzling millions in cooperative savings, with many already in judicial custody.
He questioned why only one particular detainee was being portrayed as a victim of political revenge while ignoring similar cases.
“If it’s political revenge in one case, then what about the others? Which detentions are legitimate, and which are revenge?” he asked.
The prime minister warned against what he called professional mass manipulation aimed at discrediting Parliament, the government, and the judiciary. He urged democratic forces to defend state institutions from such attacks.
Oli also accused certain individuals, including those who had allegedly obtained foreign citizenship while on a visit visa, served as ministers without renouncing it, or married abroad multiple times, of trying to portray all Nepali air travelers as sold out to foreign interests.
“This has nothing to do with the nation’s or citizens’ interests,” he said. “It is simply an attempt to toast one’s bread over the flames of emotional blackmail.”
