KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reiterated that the current political coalition will remain intact until the 2027 general elections.
Addressing Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Oli said his party, CPN-UML, and coalition partner Nepali Congress have agreed to continue their alliance until the polls.
“I want to make it clear to everyone — no matter how much some may wish for instability, this political equation will continue until the elections of 2084 BS. We have reached an agreement to that effect,” Oli told lawmakers.
Pointing out that UML and Congress together hold a strong parliamentary majority, the Prime Minister noted that other parties are also part of the government. Indirectly criticizing opposition party CPN (Maoist Centre), he said those hoping for instability often spread rumors that the government is on the verge of collapse.
“The Congress and UML alone have a decisive majority in Parliament, and several other parties are also in the government. This government stands on a solid parliamentary foundation. Yet, some keep saying it will fall today or tomorrow — and when it doesn’t, they suddenly claim they have little interest in this government,” Oli remarked.
He stressed that such rumors harm the country’s political and policy stability. “What is the point of advocating instability?” he asked. “It is certainly not for the country, for politics, or for policy stability — and it cannot be.”
