Monsoon active nationwide: Heavy rain, flood risks alert issued

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division has said that the monsoon will remain active for the next 24 hours, as the monsoon low-pressure trough lies near the Terai.

As a result, skies will remain fully cloudy across the country this afternoon. There is a likelihood of moderate rainfall in most areas, with heavy to very heavy rain expected in some places across Madhes, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim Provinces. One or two areas in Karnali Province may also experience heavy rainfall.

Tonight, the Division forecasts fully cloudy conditions in the hilly regions of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim, while other areas will remain generally cloudy.

Moderate rainfall is likely in many parts of the hilly regions of Gandaki and Karnali, as well as in both the hills and Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim.

Heavy rain is likely in some areas of the Terai and hilly regions of Sudurpaschim, and in parts of the Terai in Lumbini. One or two places in the hilly regions of Gandaki and Karnali may also receive heavy rainfall.

The Division has urged the public to remain alert, as landslides and debris flows are possible in hilly areas. Rising water levels in rivers and streams and potential disruption to transportation services have also been forecast due to ongoing rainfall.
