RPP conflict deepens as dissidents file complaint against chair Lingden

KATHMANDU: The internal dispute within the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has intensified, with senior leader Nawaraj Subedi lodging a formal complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against party chairman Rajendra Lingden.

Subedi, recently ousted from the party’s disciplinary committee, claims the move was unlawful and maintains that he still holds valid membership in the party.

He was joined by key leaders, including General Secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana and former party chief and directive committee head Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani. Together, they have accused Chairman Lingden of breaching the party’s statute and taking unilateral decisions.

The complaint comes on the heels of a separate meeting held by the dissatisfied faction on Saturday, during which Lingden’s recent decisions were criticized and plans were made to challenge them through legal avenues.

The dissenting leaders allege that Lingden ignored procedural requirements outlined in the party constitution—such as securing central committee approval—before making key organizational changes.

Lingden had removed Subedi from the disciplinary committee, claiming Subedi had forfeited his membership after publicly declaring his resignation while leading the newly formed pro-monarchy Joint People’s Movement Committee. Roshan Karki was appointed in Subedi’s place.

However, Subedi argues that although he made a verbal statement about resigning, he never submitted a formal letter, meaning his membership remains valid under party rules.
