Travel time reduced after construction of suspension bridge

MYAGDI: A 365-meter-long suspension bridge has been constructed over the Marangkhola River in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-6.

The bridge, built under the Local Infrastructure Development Project Kaski, Pokhara—operating under the Ministry of Urban Development—connects the settlements of Ghairibot and Khauribang.

Rajaram Subedi, Ward Chairperson of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-6, stated that the new bridge has significantly benefited residents of Dhawalagiri-6, Ward No. 5 Malkabang, and Malika Rural Municipality-7 Bim.

“The travel time for residents of Arbang and Ghantibang to reach essential services such as the ward office, health post, and Janabikas Secondary School in Marang has been greatly reduced,” he said.

“Previously, it took nearly an hour to reach these facilities in Marangbesi. Now, with the bridge, the journey takes only about 15 minutes.”

The bridge was built by a construction company from Beni Municipality-2 under a Rs 25 million contract. Although the contract allowed for an 18-month construction period, the project was completed in just 12 months, according to company operator Pradeep Sapkota.

In addition, a 366-meter-long suspension bridge was constructed this year over the Darkhola River in Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-3, also under the Local Infrastructure Development Project, Kaski.

With the completion of these two new bridges, the number of suspension bridges over 300 meters in length in Myagdi district has now increased to between four and six.

Other long-span suspension bridges in the district include a 365.80-meter bridge over Begkhola connecting Beg and Baduk in Raghuganga Rural Municipality-1; a 350-meter bridge linking Bimbang in Malika-7 with Rikh in Dhawalagiri-6; a 388-meter bridge connecting Ratnechaur in Beni Municipality-1 with Kudule in Baglung Municipality-4; and a 344-meter bridge between Sikh and Kindu in Annapurna Rural Municipality-5.
