RSP doesn’t support two-point agreement between Maoist and ruling coalition: Manish Jha

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Manish Jha has remarked that his party has “divorced” the CPN (Maoist Centre) for the time being.

His comment comes in the wake of a two-point agreement between the ruling coalition and the main opposition aimed at ending the parliamentary obstruction over the ongoing visit visa controversy.

Speaking briefly to the press at the Parliament building, Jha stated that the agreement between the ruling party and the main opposition Maoist Centre does not offer a viable solution to the crisis.

He revealed that Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had urged the RSP to support the agreement, but the party declined.

“The Maoists had approached us for consensus,” Jha said. “However, the agreement they reached fails to provide any concrete solution to the problem, so we couldn’t support it.”

According to Jha, the proposed investigation committee mentioned in the agreement could end up being led by an undersecretary from the Home Ministry, which, he argued, would not effectively address the issue at hand.

“They say a probe committee will be formed. But if it’s led by a Home Ministry official of lower rank, it will not solve anything,” he said.
