Heavy rainfall expected in parts of eastern and central Nepal



KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued an update on possible rainfall across various parts of the country today.

According to the Division, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely this afternoon in several areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, and at a few locations elsewhere.

There is also a chance of heavy rainfall at one or two spots in these three provinces. Light rain or snowfall is also expected in some high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, and in a few areas of other mountainous regions.

Tonight, light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is expected in hilly areas of Koshi, Madhes, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, and in a few areas across the rest of the country.

Koshi Province may also experience heavy rain at one or two locations. Light snowfall is possible in isolated high hilly and mountainous regions.

According to meteorological standards, light rain refers to less than 10 mm in 24 hours, moderate rain is 10–50 mm, heavy rain is 50–100 mm, very heavy rain is 100–200 mm, and extremely heavy rain exceeds 200 mm.
