BIRGUNJ: The curfew imposed by local authorities in Birgunj, Parsa, since Saturday evening will remain in effect until midnight tonight.

An all-party meeting held at the District Administration Office today reviewed the situation and decided to extend the curfew until midnight.

The meeting was attended by representatives from various political parties, civil society, people’s representatives, and security agencies.

Administrative Officer Deepak Patel confirmed that the curfew would not be lifted for the time being.

The meeting also discussed the incident that occurred in Birgunj on Saturday evening and issued an appeal to the public to maintain religious harmony.

Since Sunday morning, Birgunj has seen a heavy presence of security forces, with no protests, gatherings, or crowds in the restricted areas.

The local administration has warned the public not to fall victim to misleading propaganda circulating in videos on social media.

In a statement issued today, the District Administration Office, Parsa, expressed serious concern over the videos circulating online.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Kishor Lamsal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Parsa, confirmed that 40 people had been taken into custody for violating the curfew. These arrests were made at various locations starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Lamsal also stated that the situation in Birgunj is gradually returning to normal, with security forces maintaining a presence in the areas where the curfew remains enforced.
