Prachanda insists on govt led by Nepali Congress

Says country is heading in that direction

CHITWAN: Chairman of Maoist Center, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has suggested that the foundation for forming a new government has been laid with the arrival of the Nepali New Year.

Speaking to journalists in his home district of Chitwan, Prachanda indicated that the formation of a government under the leadership of the Nepali Congress (NC) is now a possibility.

When asked by a journalist about the prospects of a new government in the new year, Prachanda responded that while his party was not primarily focused on government formation, the situation was now pushing in that direction.

“Our focus is not so much on the government,” he said. “However, the situation is becoming such that it is clear this government will face difficulties in moving forward. Therefore, all possibilities are open.”

Prachanda reiterated that the Nepali Congress, as the largest party, should lead the government.

He pointed to widespread dissatisfaction and unrest across the country, citing protests from various sectors, including doctors, nurses, teachers, microfinance victims, and even parties within the current government.

“The situation has become very serious and complicated,” he said. “But I believe the New Year will bring a resolution.”

He stressed that forming a government under the leadership of the largest party would be the most appropriate solution.

“Last time, I spoke based on many new experiences, and I don’t want to say more than that. I said it based on new developments. I believe the country is moving in that direction,” Prachanda added.
