Curfew in effect in Birgunj until 12 noon today

PARSA: The District Administration Office, Parsa, has issued a curfew order in Birgunj until 12 noon on Sunday following heightened tensions during Hanuman Janmotsav celebrations on Saturday.

The curfew, which came into effect at 6:30 PM on Saturday and will remain in place until midnight on Sunday, was imposed after clashes broke out between the Hindu and Muslim communities in the Chhapakaiyya area of Birgunj.

Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal stated that the curfew was enforced to maintain peace and security in light of the rising tensions surrounding Hanuman Janmotsav.

The curfew has been implemented in accordance with Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, which authorizes restrictions on public movement and gatherings to preserve public order.

Under the order, movement has been prohibited within designated areas of Birgunj Metropolitan City.

The restricted zone extends from Bhediahi Chowk in Ward No. 15 to Sirsia Bridge in Ward No. 25 on the east-west axis, and from Gandak Chowk to Ward No. 14 in the north, down to Shankaracharya Gate in Ward No. 16 in the south.

The administration has banned all forms of public movement, gatherings, processions, demonstrations, meetings, and sit-ins within these boundaries.

The decision follows an earlier clash between two local groups during a Hanuman Jayanti procession, prompting the authorities to take precautionary measures to prevent further escalation.
