KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel has called on all stakeholders to actively participate in the free screening campaign launched today by the Ministry of Health and Population.
The initiative aims to promote preventive healthcare and curb the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Nepal.
In an official statement, Paudel highlighted that NCDs account for nearly three-quarters of deaths in the country, with climate change and rapid urbanization further exacerbating health risks.
Recognizing the urgency of the issue, he emphasized the need for a community-driven approach that integrates health promotion, prevention, and curative services at the local level.
“We are making every effort to improve the quality of healthcare services and treatment in our institutions,” said Paudel. “At the same time, we are committed to disease prevention through basic health screenings and public awareness. By identifying conditions early, we can protect both individual health and national resources through timely intervention.”
As part of the initiative, citizens above the age of 30 will be screened for non-communicable diseases at health institutions in every local level. The screenings aim to enable early diagnosis and management of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
The ministry has pledged to continue the campaign annually, reinforcing its long-term commitment to reducing Nepal’s NCD burden.
Paudel urged citizens, healthcare professionals, and local governments to work together in ensuring access to essential health services and improving public health outcomes.
With this initiative, the government hopes to shift the focus from treatment to prevention, safeguarding the well-being of Nepali citizens and reducing healthcare costs in the long run.
