Four ordinances issued, land-related amendment held at Sheetal Niwas

KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has issued four ordinances that had been recommended by the Council of Ministers in a meeting held last Friday night.

Upon the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, President Paudel ratified ordinances amending some Nepalese laws related to promoting good governance and public service, financial responsibility (first amendment), privatization (first amendment), and economic and business environment reforms and investment growth.

In a press release issued by spokesperson Shailaja Regmi Bhattarai from Sheetal Niwas on Monday evening, it was stated that only four ordinances were issued.

However, five ordinances had been sent to Sheetal Niwas for ratification by the Prime Minister’s office on Sunday. Among the recommended ordinances, the one titled ‘Amendment to Some Nepalese Land Laws’ was not ratified by the President.

The ‘Amendment to Some Nepalese Land Laws’ ordinance was also sent for ratification by the President from the Council of Ministers’ meeting on Friday.

President Paudel’s press advisor, Kiran Pokharel, spoke with Khabarhub and stated that the ‘Amendment to Some Nepalese Land Laws’ ordinance was held back for further study.

“The ordinance has been kept for study,” he said. “The President will make a decision after completing the necessary study.”

Meanwhile, opposition parties, including the CPN Maoist Centre, have been protesting against the government’s use of ordinances, claiming that the government is bypassing parliamentary procedures by not calling the winter session of parliament.
