Armed Police Force unveils security operation plan for upcoming election

KATHMANDU: The Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal has announced a comprehensive operational policy to ensure a transparent, impartial, and fear-free environment for the upcoming House of Representatives election.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday, the APF stated that the new policy outlines its deployment strategy and coordination mechanisms with other security agencies.

According to APF Spokesperson DIG Manish Thapa, the force will be mobilized in all constituencies as per assigned responsibilities. The APF will act as the second layer of security, working in close coordination with other security bodies. A dedicated election security training curriculum has been prepared, and all APF personnel will undergo the training before deployment.

The policy also includes assisting in the enforcement of the Election Code of Conduct, preparing province-wise and district-level maps of constituencies, and identifying strategically important locations for efficient deployment.

DIG Thapa said APF personnel will be deployed one month before the election, equipped with necessary logistics and vehicles. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will be mobilized with arms and required equipment from one day before to one day after the election, positioned strategically within their respective areas.

The APF also briefed the media on its recent work in border security, internal security, revenue protection, and disaster management, highlighting the force’s broader role in maintaining national security.
