Cold wave deepens: Kathmandu Valley records 6°C in early morning reading

KAHTMANDU: The cold has been increasing across the country, including in the Kathmandu Valley, over the past few days.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the minimum temperature in the Valley was recorded at 6.0 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am today (Thursday).

The temperature at the same time yesterday was also 6 degrees, but it later dropped to 5.4 degrees Celsius at 8:45 am, which became the day’s official minimum.

Today’s official minimum temperature will be determined after the 8:45 am measurement, and meteorologists say it could drop further.

They explain that a cloudy night keeps morning temperatures slightly higher, while a clear night allows the minimum temperature to fall.

The Division records both minimum and maximum temperatures across the country, including Kathmandu, every day. The lowest temperature recorded is taken as the day’s minimum, and the highest as the maximum. The minimum is measured at 8:45 am and the maximum at 5:45 pm.
