Six drivers arrested in Kathmandu for driving under influence of drugs



KATHMANDU: Traffic police have arrested six drivers in Kathmandu Valley for driving under the influence of drugs.

According to Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, the arrests were made during a routine inspection conducted in Sukedhara. The traffic police have been carrying out regular checks across the Valley.

Those arrested include Pathao motorbike riders Shekhar Nath Ghimire (39) of Arjundhara Municipality-6, Jhapa; Sajid Ansari (33) of Pachrauta Municipality-6, Bara; and Suman Pariyar (22) of Belkotgadhi Municipality, Nuwakot.

Others include Suraj Kumar Bajgain (47) of Banepa Municipality-3, Kavre; Kapil Thapa (32), a public bus driver from Thaha Municipality-4, Makwanpur; and Bhim Bahadur Khadka (22), a Bolero driver from Salyan.

The arrested individuals have been handed over to the respective police offices for further investigation, the Valley Traffic Police Office stated.

Valley Traffic Police Chief Nawaraj Adhikari urged all drivers to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“Public vehicle drivers carry many passengers, and driving under the influence puts multiple lives at risk,” Adhikari said, warning that violators will face legal action.
