World Pneumonia Day being observed today



KATHMANDU: World Pneumonia Day is being observed globally today, highlighting the importance of raising awareness, reducing child mortality, preventing pneumonia, and strengthening health systems.

Marking the occasion at the call of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Government of Nepal has also stressed the need to build robust preventive health services and a resilient healthcare system.

Awareness programs are being held in various hospitals and health institutions across the country under the theme “Save Children: Invest in Strong Health Systems for Prevention and Treatment.”

Pneumonia remains one of the leading causes of death among children. The government has underscored the importance of increasing investment in primary healthcare, enhancing the capacity of health workers, and improving public awareness about the disease’s risks and prevention.
