National Assembly Chair urges Prime Minister to hold elections 35 days before members’ term ends



KATHMANDU: National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal met with Prime Minister Sushila Karki to discuss the upcoming National Assembly elections.

During the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar on Sunday, Chair Dahal informed Prime Minister Karki that the term of one-third of National Assembly members will expire on March 4, and as per legal provisions, the election should be conducted 35 days prior to that date.

Following the meeting, Chair Dahal said discussions also covered the issue of convening the next National Assembly session. He informed that preparations are underway to call the meeting after the reconstruction of the Parliament building in Baneshwor, which was damaged during the Gen-Z protests.

The two also discussed pending bills under consideration in the National Assembly. During the meeting, Prime Minister Karki emphasized the need for collective efforts to move the country forward in the current situation, Dahal added.
