MAHOTTARI: Floodwaters from the Rato River, which breached embankments on October 5 and 6, have damaged paddy crops on approximately 2,000 hectares across nine local levels of Mahottari district.

According to Devananda Yadav, Chief of the Agriculture Knowledge Centre in Mahottari, data collected from nine out of the district’s 15 local levels show extensive inundation and damage to paddy fields.

The largest damage occurred in Mahottari Rural Municipality, where 600 hectares of paddy were affected, followed by 500 hectares in Balawa Municipality. Matihani and Ekdara Rural Municipalities each reported damage to 300 hectares of paddy.

Other affected areas include Loharpatti Municipality with 100 hectares, Bhangaha Municipality with 86 hectares, Aurahi Municipality with 23 hectares, Gaushala Municipality with 20 hectares, and Sonama Rural Municipality with 10 hectares.
