Sushila Karki to be sworn in as interim Prime Minister today after House dissolution

KATHMANDU: An agreement has been reached to appoint former Chief Justice (CJ) Sushila Karki as head of the interim government this evening, following the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).

After a full day of intense discussions on Friday, top leaders agreed to move forward with the dissolution of Parliament—a key demand from Gen-Z protesters and some political forces.

According to sources close to Shital Niwas, President Ram Chandra Paudel, who had earlier insisted on appointing Karki only after the House was dissolved, has relented under growing pressure.

Reportedly, the President informed major party leaders that he could no longer withstand public pressure—particularly after youth protesters threatened to surround Shital Niwas—and decided to move ahead with both the House dissolution and Karki’s appointment.

“The President said he was going to dissolve the House and prepare to swear in Sushila Karki immediately,” a source confirmed.

Currently, preparations are underway at Shital Niwas to finalize the official documents: one for the dissolution of the House of Representatives, and another to appoint Sushila Karki as Prime Minister.
