Police request photos, videos of September 8-9 Gen-Z movement incidents

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has issued a public notice requesting the public to submit any photos, videos, or social media links related to the incidents that occurred during the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9.

The notice, issued on Friday, urges citizens to assist in the investigation by providing visual evidence of unpleasant incidents, arson, looting, and other activities that created fear and panic during the protests across the country, including the Kathmandu Valley.

“If you have any photos, videos, or social media links related to these events, please send them to the police. Your cooperation will greatly assist us in our investigation,: the statement reads.

Police have assured the public that the identity and confidentiality of those submitting materials will be strictly protected.

The Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9 escalated into violent unrest, resulting in widespread destruction. Key administrative buildings—including Singha Durbar, the President’s Office, the Prime Minister’s Residence, the Supreme Court, as well as government offices, political party headquarters, private homes, and businesses—were reportedly set on fire or vandalized.

As of now, 51 people have been confirmed dead in connection with the protests.
