Nakkhu Jail tells escaped prisoners, including Rabi Lamichhane, to surrender immediately

KATHMANDU: Nakkhu Prison authorities have issued a formal appeal for all prisoners who escaped on Tuesday to come forward and establish contact with the administration immediately. The appeal includes Rastriya Swatantra Party chair Rabi Lamichhane, who was serving time for a cooperative fraud case.

In a notice released Thursday, Nakkhu Jail urged all escapees to surrender promptly. The administration warned that continued absconding would not only lead to strict enforcement of existing sentences but could also negatively affect any future legal rights, benefits, and social reintegration processes.

“Out of respect for the law, social responsibility, and public order, we appeal to all escaped prisoners to contact the jail authorities and surrender immediately to assist in maintaining peace and order,” the notice said.

The jail administration also assured that prisoners who voluntarily come forward will receive full legal support and assistance in the rehabilitation process in accordance with applicable law.

When asked about Lamichhane, an official from Nakkhu Jail, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons, confirmed that the notice applies to him as well. “Lamichhane left the prison after threatening jail staff and taking a letter under duress. His actions also caused many other prisoners to escape,” the official said.

The official added that if Lamichhane returns voluntarily, he will receive all benefits and legal procedures in line with the notice.

The official clarified that if Lamichhane and other escapees fail to respond to the appeal, the police will take action to apprehend them. “We have formally requested voluntary surrender. If prisoners do not comply, they will be brought back through law enforcement measures,” the jail official said.
