Koshi Barrage: 19 sluices opened as water levels surge

SUNSARI: The water flow in the Saptakoshi River has risen due to continuous rainfall in the eastern hilly and Terai districts.

According to Armed Police Superintendent Nirmal Thapa, the water discharge recorded at the Koshi Barrage at 8:00 pm on Monday was 174,494 cusecs per second.

In response to the increased flow, 19 of the 56 gates at the Koshi Barrage—including 52 main gates and four canal gates—have been opened. Red warning lights have been activated as a precautionary measure, indicating a potential flood risk, Thapa added.
