TUTH emergency department adds 15 beds, launches advanced MRI service

KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) has expanded its healthcare facilities to improve service delivery and patient care.

Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel today inaugurated a new 15-bed ‘Green Area Ward’ in the hospital’s emergency department, along with the launch of a state-of-the-art three-Tesla MRI service.

Speaking at the event, Minister Paudel expressed hope that these additions would enhance the overall effectiveness of Nepal’s health sector.

“These expanded services will make affordable and accessible healthcare available to more citizens. The ministry remains committed to supporting hospital modernization and service expansion,” he said.

Hospital Director Prof Dr Subash Acharya highlighted that the new MRI machine, provided with support from the ministry, will significantly reduce the need for patients to seek costly diagnostic services elsewhere.

“There was a shortage of beds in the emergency room—sometimes even two patients had to share a single bed. With this expansion, that issue is now being addressed,” Dr Acharya added.
