Nepal hosts trade and investment promotion event in Chengdu



KATHMANDU: The Consulate General of Nepal in Chengdu, China, organized a “Trade and Investment Promotion Dialogue” on Thursday in an effort to enhance economic engagement between Nepal and China.

The event was attended by key provincial officials including Li Huaiqiang, Deputy Director General of the Sichuan Foreign Affairs Office, and Wu Ge, Deputy Director General of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce. Representatives from SASAC Sichuan, CCPIT Sichuan, the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Commerce, and several Chinese companies operating in Nepal were also present.

Nepali investors, traders, and students based in Chengdu participated in the program, according to a press statement issued by the Nepali Consulate General.

Nepal’s Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, addressed the gathering through a video message, highlighting the country’s investment potential and recent policy reforms aimed at attracting foreign investment.

During the event, participants discussed Nepal’s trade and investment environment. Li Huaiqiang expressed commitment to supporting Nepal’s development aspirations and emphasized continued coordination between the Sichuan Foreign Affairs Office and the Nepali Consulate to strengthen bilateral exchanges.

Wu Ge suggested exploring new cooperation areas including clean energy and energy storage, digital service outsourcing, and development of warehousing and logistics supply chain hubs.

Consul General of Nepal in Chengdu, Suresh Raut, outlined Nepal’s priority investment sectors, including green energy, infrastructure, and agricultural mechanization.

The event also saw participation from representatives of major Chinese enterprises such as Dongfeng Electrics, Sichuan Energy Development Group, Tongwei Group, Sichuan ShuDao Investment Group, Jinhui Pharmaceutical Company, and Xiamen Chatu Trading.
