Nationwide monsoon activity expected in a week: DHM

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast that the monsoon will become active across Nepal within the next week.

According to the department, the monsoon has already entered the eastern parts of the country around 15 days earlier than the average onset date. It is expected to spread throughout the rest of the country in the coming days.

Senior meteorologist Shanti Kandel stated that rainfall activity has already begun to increase across the country starting Thursday.

“There is a likelihood of light to heavy rainfall in all provinces over the next few days,” she said.

At present, the monsoon system is primarily affecting the eastern region, but it is expected to expand across the country within a week, she added.

Kandel also noted that this year’s rainfall could be accompanied by higher-than-average maximum and minimum temperatures nationwide.

She urged the general public to stay informed about weather conditions to help reduce the risks associated with water and weather-related disasters.
