Balen and Sunita hold formal talks after five months

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) and Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol have resumed formal discussions after a gap of five months.

Their latest meeting focused on convening the executive committee and municipal assembly meetings, as well as deliberations on the upcoming budget.

According to a source at the metropolis, “The mayor, deputy mayor, and several ward chairpersons held discussions on calling the executive meeting on Wednesday and determining the next steps regarding the budget. This marks the first formal discussion between the mayor and deputy mayor since the meeting held on 14 Poush.”

The discussion was attended by key ward representatives, including Ishworman Dangol, chairman of Ward No. 15 (Unified Socialist), Nabin Manandhar, chairman of Ward No. 17 and spokesperson from the Nepali Congress, and Nawaraj Parajuli from the CPN-UML.

Tensions between the Mayor and Deputy Mayor had previously arisen over whether to allow Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain to resume duties at the metropolis.

However, with the support of a majority of ward chairs and municipal staff, Deputy Mayor Dangol eventually created an environment that allowed Guragain to rejoin the office.
