NUWAKOT: Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Bahadur Singh Lama (Tamang), announced a new initiative to protect agricultural land from erosion caused by rivers and streams, aimed at preventing farmers from losing their land.
Speaking at an event in Panchakanya Rural Municipality-4, Nuwakot, on Friday, the Chief Minister outlined the provincial government’s plan to recover and rehabilitate land that has become uncultivable due to river and stream erosion.
The project, which has been allocated a budget of Rs 300 million, will be launched as a model scheme in select districts of Bagmati Province this year. It aims to help farmers affected by erosion, specifically focusing on lands damaged by the Tandi and Likhu rivers in Nuwakot.
“We will provide relief to the affected farmers by controlling the erosion of the Tandi and Likhu rivers and restoring damaged lands,” said Chief Minister Tamang.
The scheme, which will begin in Nuwakot, is expected to conserve 28,000 ropanis of agricultural land. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the recovered land would become fertile again with proper irrigation and farming facilities, ultimately boosting agricultural production.
