Bus carrying students crashes in Sankhu; 3 dead, 40 injured

KATHMANDU: Three students have died in a tragic school bus accident in Sankhu, Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Kathmandu Police Spokesperson, SP Apilraj Bohara, confirmed that 40 students were injured in the crash.

Sushanka Dotel succumbed to his injuries while being treated at Shankharapur Hospital.

Another victim died during treatment at NMC Hospital, and a third person passed away at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, according to Bohara.

The bus, identified as Sundarimai Yatayat (Ba 2 Kha 7958), had been on a trip from SS Academy in Chabahil.

The accident occurred in Shankharapur Municipality-5 while the bus was returning from a picnic in Nagarkot.

Around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, the vehicle’s brakes failed, causing it to lose control on the Sankhu-Nagarkot road in Kattike.

The 40 injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals.
