BIRATNAGAR: Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has assured that the provincial mass media bill will be passed by consensus.

In his address at the inauguration of the second session of the Press Chautari Koshi Province Committee in Biratnagar on Wednesday, Chief Minister Karki pledged to address the shortcomings of the provincial media bill currently before the provincial assembly and proceed with its passage.

He also commented on the ongoing dispute regarding the ordinance, clarifying that while some party leaders oppose the government’s proposed bill, the ordinance is constitutional.

“If it is not passed by the assembly, it will be rejected, but that does not rule out the possibility of bringing a new ordinance,” Karki said adding both federal and provincial governments in the past have used ordinances.

Karki urged future government leaders to avoid unnecessary opposition to the bill.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister highlighted the provincial government’s focus on development initiatives in Koshi, particularly in tourism. He announced the construction of four new trekking routes that will connect 29 municipalities in the province, with support from donor agencies.

Karki also emphasized the acceleration of development projects, noting visible positive changes following the formation of a new power structure.
