Lumbini Lions and Biratnagar Kings battle for NPL final spot

KATHMANDU: The race to the Nepal Premier League (NPL) final heats up today as the Lumbini Lions take on the Biratnagar Kings in the second qualifier.

Scheduled to start at 4 PM on Thursday, the high-stakes clash will determine who earns the last remaining spot in Saturday’s championship match.

Lumbini is led by national team captain Rohit Kumar Poudel, while Biratnagar is captained by Sandeep Lamichhane. Biratnagar, having lost the first qualifier, now must compete in the second qualifier for a place in the final. Lumbini, on the other hand, earned their spot by winning the eliminator.

The winner of today’s match will face Sudurpaschim Royals in the NPL Season 2 final on Saturday. Sudurpaschim secured their place in the final after defeating Biratnagar by 77 runs in the first qualifier.

Lumbini enters today’s match with confidence, having beaten Biratnagar by five wickets during the league stage. Chasing a target of 145 runs, Lumbini reached the total in 17 overs with five wickets in hand and four balls remaining. A key contest today will be between Biratnagar’s star bowler Sandeep Lamichhane and Lumbini’s in-form bowler Sher Malla.
