KATHMANDU: The faction led by Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kulman Ghising has updated the registration of the Ujyalo Nepal Party at the Election Commission.
According to Assistant Spokesperson of the Commission, Prakash Neupane, the party previously chaired by Gyan Bahadur Tamang has been amended, proposing former secretary Anup Kumar Upadhyaya as the new coordinator.
The proposal to appoint Upadhyaya as coordinator was made by Minister Ghising himself. However, details about the party’s central members have not been fully disclosed.
The party has proposed a 51-member central committee, which includes former coordinator Tamang. Among the notable members are identity activist Dr. Mahendra Lawati from Panchthar, Dakendra Thegim, who contested the Ilam-2 by-election, and Saraswati Limbu from Taplejung.
Sources close to Ghising said Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, former RSP lawmaker Sumana Shrestha, and Gen-Z activist Sudhan Gurung are not part of the new lineup.
The party has proposed the ‘light bulb’ as its election symbol.
According to the source, Minister Ghising’s name is not yet included in the list of 51 members. He is expected to take formal leadership of the party only after leaving ministerial office.
