Narayan Kaji Shrestha criticizes Madhesh incident as insult to democratic practice

KATHMANDU: Leader of the newly formed Nepali Communist Party, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, has criticized the recent incident in Madhesh Province as an insult to democratic practice.

Shrestha’s remarks came after Madhesh Province Chief Sumitra Suvedi Bhandari administered the oath of office to UML parliamentary leader Saroj Kumar Yadav as chief minister at Panas Hotel in Bardibas on Monday. He described the swearing-in at a hotel, rather than through standard legislative procedures, as a major blow to political ethics.

“This clearly shows that political parties and leaders have not learned their lesson, even after the significant Gen-Z revolt,” Shrestha said. He recalled that the Gen-Z movement had called for the purification and transformation of political parties, noting that the current trend runs counter to that goal.

Shrestha warned that political parties disregarding the message of the uprising would be extremely harmful to the country’s political future. He called on all Gen-Z activists and supporters of the positive aspects of the movement to raise their voices to make the issues of party purification and transformation meaningful and effective.
