12 arrested for vandalism during Gen-Z protest in Jhapa



JHAPA: Police have arrested 12 individuals involved in vandalism, arson, and looting of police offices and vehicles during the Gen-Z protest in Jhapa district.

The incidents took place on September 9 at the Area Police Offices in Anarmani, Surunga, and Damak, where protesters also attacked police personnel.

District Police Office Spokesperson Khagendra Bahadur Khadka said the accused were identified and taken into custody through CCTV footage, videos, and photographs of the events.

Those arrested include Nawaraj Rai, Rajan Chaudhary, and Ayush Dhimal, all from Birtamod-5; Gopal Sangraula from Kankai-1; Bishnu BK from Kankai-3; Kushal Timsina and Sanjay Basnet from Shivasatakshi-10; Puja Magar from Birtamod-5; Suraj Rai from Arjundhara-7; Riyaz Silwal from Damak-3; Nakul Adhikari from Chulachuli-3, Ilam; and Sajan Lhagun from Panchthar Miklajung-5, currently residing in Damak-1.

A case has been filed against the arrested individuals for criminal nuisance and attempted murder, and investigations are ongoing with summons being obtained from the Jhapa District Court.

During the protest, 99 weapons were looted and set on fire at the area police offices, of which 77 have been recovered. Police confirmed that 22 weapons remain unreturned.
