No shortage of salt in Jumla: STC

JUMLA: The Salt Trading Corporation (STC) has clarified that there is no shortage of salt in Jumla district.

According to the branch office, the local depot currently has a stock of approximately 6,000 quintals of salt. Office Chief Nagendra Bahadur Thapa confirmed that the available quantity is sufficient to meet the district’s demand.

For the current fiscal year, the depot at the district headquarters in Khalanga Bazaar has been allocated a quota of 5,500 quintals. Additionally, the Narakot depot in Sinja Rural Municipality has received 1,500 quintals, while the Guruchaur depot in Kanakasundari Rural Municipality has a quota of 1,300 quintals.

“There is no shortage of salt in the district,” Thapa reiterated. “We have adequate stock, and distribution is being carried out based on the demand and recommendations from all eight local-level wards. Around 546 quintals of salt were sold during the Dashain festival.”

In previous years, Jumla’s annual quota stood at around 5,400 quintals, and distribution to sub-contributors was often challenging. However, this year, the quota has been increased, and distribution has become more streamlined, Thapa explained.

He added that the remaining quota is currently being transported to all three depots, including the district headquarters. Among the sub-contributors, Chandannath Municipality, Guthichaur, Patarasi, and Tatopani Rural Municipality are receiving the highest volume of salt.

Salt is being distributed directly through the respective wards of the local levels, which has significantly eased access for residents. As a result, locals have expressed satisfaction with the improved distribution system.
