Police post developed with community donations

KOTANG: Locals of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality–14, Buipa, have collectively raised funds to improve infrastructure and install CCTV cameras at the local police post.

The Police Post Management Committee mobilized Rs 1,244,466 through voluntary donations from residents and supporters within the post’s service area.

The funds have been used for installing CCTV cameras, constructing a waiting room and roundhouse, setting up road information boards, and managing office needs.

According to Santosh Rai, Chairperson of the Police Post Management Committee, a total of Rs 1,007,497 has been spent on the purchase and installation of materials.

Of the remaining amount, Rs 211,111 is yet to be collected from the upcoming fiscal budgets of Wards 14 and 15, while Rs 25,858 remains in the committee’s account.

The police post now has 14 CCTV cameras, a waiting room, a roundhouse, five road information boards, and improved office facilities.

Operated from a concrete RCC building constructed on its own land, the office has been further managed through municipal support, community donations for items like carpets and curtains, and labor contributions from local residents for renovations.

On Thursday, the police post organized a public hearing to present a financial and physical progress report regarding the donations and activities of the management committee.

Ward Chairpersons Dinesh Rai (Buipa) and Ram Bahadur Katwal (Bijaykharka), along with local political representatives and community leaders, attended the event held at the police post premises.

Participants in the hearing emphasized the importance of community-police collaboration in ensuring local safety. They noted that proactive efforts from citizens can lead to meaningful improvements without solely relying on state intervention.

Committee Chair Rai stated that the public hearing demonstrated a strong example of transparency and cooperative effort.

The building was completed with an investment of Rs 20.2 million by the Urban Development and Building Division Office, Okhaldhunga. It includes separate detention facilities for men and women, individual rooms and restrooms for the office chief and personnel, and other essential infrastructure.
