Goods imported by evading customs seized in Birgunj

PARSA: The Parsa unit of the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal has seized goods worth approximately Rs 1.371 million that were illegally imported by evading customs duties.

According to Devendra Bahadur Singh, Information Officer of the APF Parsa, the seized items include clothing worth Rs 770,500 that were illegally brought in from India and stored in a warehouse at Sudha Kunj, Bajrang, in Birgunj Metropolitan City-10. The goods were allegedly imported by Dheeraj Rauniyar.

Additionally, the APF confiscated an Indian-registered Super Splendor motorcycle bearing number plate BR05U 4530, valued at around Rs 150,000. Both the clothing and the motorcycle have been handed over to the Birgunj Customs Office for further action.

The APF also seized clothing and spices worth Rs 248,101 from various border points in Wards 10 and 16 of Birgunj Metropolitan City.

On Tuesday, groceries worth Rs 23,380 were seized from Prasauni, Bindabasini Rural Municipality. These goods, too, were smuggled from India on a motorcycle with the registration number BR22U 1432, bypassing customs regulations.

Authorities say operations to curb illegal cross-border trade have been intensified in light of ongoing efforts to strengthen customs enforcement.
