International Sports Day observed worldwide today

KATHMANDU: International Sports Day is being celebrated globally today under the slogan ‘Choose Sports Every Day.’

On this occasion, all stakeholders are urged to recognize sports as the foundation of children’s holistic development and to actively promote, protect, and prioritize sporting activities.

Sports are not merely a form of entertainment but have become a universal language that connects people of all ages. They foster social inclusion and support mental health.

For children, in particular, sports play a crucial role in building relationships, enhancing problem-solving skills, and developing a wide range of abilities.

According to Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, every child has the fundamental right to participate in sports. Research shows that incorporating sports-based education into the curriculum enhances the overall learning experience.
