India gifts EVs for Sagarmatha Sambaad



KATHMANDU: The Government of India has provided 15 electric vehicles to Nepal in support of the first edition of the Sagarmatha Sambaad.

The vehicles were handed over under the Nepal-India Cooperation Program during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

At the event, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava formally presented the vehicles to Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba.

Expressing gratitude for the support, Minister Rana thanked the Indian government and highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in addressing the pressing issue of climate change.

She noted that climate change poses a shared threat across the region and highlighted the need for coordinated, collective responses.

Minister Rana further stated that the upcoming Sagarmatha Sambaad will bring regional attention to climate challenges and serve as a platform to foster joint efforts toward sustainable solutions.

With the event scheduled from May 16 to 19, she confirmed that preparations are in their final stages and that Nepal is ready to welcome foreign dignitaries and guests.

Ambassador Srivastava underscored India’s continued support for Nepal’s development in both economic and social sectors.

He expressed satisfaction over the contribution to the Sagarmatha Sambaad and reaffirmed India’s solidarity with Nepal in tackling the climate crisis, describing it as a regional concern that demands collective action.
