SC resumes hearing on writ against 52 constitutional bodies appointments

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has resumed hearing on the writ petition filed against the appointment of 52 officials to various constitutional bodies during the tenure of the KP Sharma Oli-led government.

The case, which has remained undecided for the past four years, is now being re-heard by the Constitutional Bench from today. On December 15, 2022, the then government issued an ordinance on the Constitutional Council (Work, Duties and Powers) and appointed 52 individuals to constitutional bodies.

Advocate Om Prakash Aryal had filed a writ petition challenging the legality of those appointments. The bench had earlier adopted a watchful waiting approach since December 2024.

The hearing was delayed when Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut travelled to the United Kingdom. With his return, the hearing is now set to move forward.
