RPP MP Shahi criticizes Labor Ministry for failing to address youth unemployment

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) MP Gyanendra Shahi has stated that nearly 8 million Nepali youths are currently abroad in search of employment. Shahi criticized the Labor Ministry for its failure to address their welfare.

Speaking at a House of Representatives meeting on Sunday, he said, “Around 8 million youths are forced to seek work abroad, yet the Labor Ministry and the Foreign Ministry have remained silent.”

He added that even amid the ongoing lockdown, the Labor Ministry has not taken any action. Meanwhile, Nepalis abroad have sent remittances totaling 1.44 trillion rupees, or 32 billion rupees, he stated.

Shahi further accused the Labor Ministry of negligence, highlighting how many Nepalis have become homeless due to fraudulent brokers.

“How many Nepalis have been deceived by the Labor Ministry? Millions of people have lost their homes because of brokers,” he said.

“Will the Labor Minister continue to ride in a car, or will he work for the people? If there is no work for the people, there is no work for him either.”
