Durga Prasai not to be brought to Nepal via Kakarbhitta

KATHMANDU: Durga Prasai, the coordinator of the Joint People’s Movement Mobilization Committee for the Restoration of the Monarchy, is likely to be brought into Nepal through the Galgalia border point in Bhadrapur instead of the Kakarbhitta checkpoint, according to campaign spokesperson Swagat Nepal.

Swagat Nepal said that Prasai will not be brought via the Mechipul checkpoint in Kakarbhitta, where a number of journalists, human rights activists, and supporters had gathered in anticipation of his arrival.

He claimed that security personnel are preparing to bypass the gathering by using the Galgaliya border crossing.

Posting on Facebook, Nepal wrote, “It has also been understood from rights activists that the police are preparing to bring him to Nepal through the Galgalia border crossing towards Bhadrapur, bypassing the Kakarbhitta border crossing since patriotic citizens, journalists, and human rights activists have reached Mechipul Kakarbhitta. Durga Prasai should be allowed to enter Nepal in the presence of rights activists and journalists. Otherwise, it will not happen.”

On Thursday evening, Prasai had reportedly urged police in India’s Assam state to ensure his safe return to Nepal.

According to Prasai’s secretariat, there are plans to fly him to Kathmandu today from Bhadrapur Airport in Jhapa.

The committee has also called on stakeholders to be present at the Tribhuvan International Airport to welcome him.
