KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have stated that the search for Durga Prasai, the leader of the March 28 violent protest in Tinkune, is still underway.

In a statement released late Thursday night, Nepal Police Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General Dinesh Kumar Acharya, responded to various media reports claiming that Prasai had been arrested.

The statement clarified that Prasai, who is wanted in connection with several criminal activities, remains at large.

“We would like to inform the public that Durga Prasai, who is absconding and involved in various criminal incidents, is on Nepal Police’s wanted list. As he has not yet been apprehended, we urge everyone not to publish or broadcast misleading news,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Prasai’s secretariat claimed via a Facebook post that he has surrendered to police in the Indian state of Assam. According to the post, Prasai voluntarily turned himself in for his own safety.
