New one-way traffic rules set to begin in Kathmandu’s Ward No. 5 from Feb 19

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City is set to implement a one-way traffic system on several roads in Ward No. 5, aimed at improving traffic management, safety, and convenience.

A public notice issued by the Metropolitan City on Tuesday outlined the new traffic arrangements, which will come into effect from February 19.

The notice informed the public that, as per the decision of the Building Management Committee on December 20, 2024, vehicles will operate on specific roads in a one-way direction starting from the specified date.

The following roads will be subject to the one-way system:

  • Vehicles will be allowed to enter Ward No. 5 from Thatu Marg, which leads to the ward office, as well as from Bhimsen Marg and Hatti Mahankal Marg-Hadigaun Marg.
  • Vehicles coming from Vishalnagar will not be allowed to proceed to Ward No. 5 office via Bhimsen Marg. Instead, they will be directed towards Hatti Mahankal.
  • Direct access to Dhungedhara from Handigaun will be prohibited, and vehicles will be redirected to Thatu Marg.
  • Vehicles coming from Naxal Bhatbhateni will not be able to access Thatu Marg from Ward No. 5 office. They will be redirected towards Bhimsen Marg.
  • Entry from Dhungedhara towards Hatti Mahankal will be restricted.
  • Access from the southern side of Ward No. 5 office towards Gahana Pokhari will also be blocked.
  • Entry from Bal Mandir to Tangal on Kailash Marg will only be allowed from Bal Mandir, while entry from Tangal will be restricted.

This new arrangement aims to streamline traffic flow in the area and ensure a safer, more organized movement of vehicles.
