Ramhari Khatiwada confident Parliament session will convene soon

KATHMANDU: Chair of the House of Representatives’ State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Ramhari Khatiwada, has expressed confidence that the parliamentary session will be convened at the earliest.

Speaking at a tea reception organized by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) on Saturday to mark the birth anniversary of Prithvi Narayan Shah and National Unity Day, Khatiwada highlighted that the delay in convening the parliament has left several bills in limbo.

He emphasized the constitutional mandate requiring the government to convene the next parliamentary session within six months of the last one and reiterated the need for an early session.

“Discussions are ongoing in the committee I chair regarding several bills, including the Civil Service Bill. The government has yet to present its position on certain matters, such as setting the retirement age for civil servants at 60. Parliament reserves the right to express disagreement on some of the government’s proposals,” Khatiwada said.

He also expressed optimism that the government would advance the constitutional amendment process through discussions and consensus with all stakeholders.
