Govt brings ordinance to streamline public services



KATHMANDU: The government has introduced an ordinance to amend several laws with the aim of facilitating public services.

The decision was taken during a late-night meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Baluwatar on Friday.

Following the meeting, the ordinance has been forwarded to the President’s Office for approval.

According to a minister present at the meeting, the ordinance focuses on simplifying and improving the delivery of public services by addressing key legal provisions.

Among the changes proposed, non-resident Nepali citizens who have lived in Nepal for ten years will now be eligible for a free visa.

The ordinance also seeks to enhance government efficiency by mandating that decisions must be made within seven days. Failure to adhere to this timeline will result in administrative action as the government wants promote accountability and reduce delays within public offices.

Furthermore, the ordinance includes a provision to make the national identity card gradually mandatory for receiving social security allowances.
